Shutting the Door on Interview Mind Blocks
Sep 02, 2024If you ask jobseekers what they’re nervous about the most, it’s likely they’ll say “interviews”. That's understandable—interviews can determine whether you land the job or not. This is also where our nerves act up because our minds like to think ahead of us.
“What if I blank out?”,”What if they won’t consider me because of my answer?”
All of these “what-if’s” spiral into a self-fulfilling prophecy; I’m so nervous, I blanked out - I knew it, I’m not good at interviews! …and the cycle continues.
Our minds are powerful—they can either be for you or against you. Knowing how to take authority over your thoughts will shape your behavior, and your mindset is often the key that makes or breaks your interview.
An anxious mindset gives:
-
Pressure
-
Fear of failure
-
Blank outs and fumbles
A positive mindset gives:
-
Confidence
-
Enthusiasm
-
Free flowing communication
The moment you understand the key is not always the content but your mind itself, you can begin shifting your thoughts for a better interview.
Here's to never blanking out again.
